AOW pension payments outside the Netherlands
You will receive your AOW pension in your bank account every month. AOW pensions are paid by the Social Insurance Bank (SVB).
You can see when the SVB transfers your AOW pension on My SVB (information in Dutch). Log in using your DigiD or another EU-approved login key. It may sometimes take a day or two longer to transfer money to a foreign account. How much longer depends on your bank and the country you live in.
The AOW pension is not always paid in euros
In most countries, you will receive your AOW pension in euros. In Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Morocco, New Zealand, the United States of America and South Africa, however, you will receive it in the local currency. The amount you receive will differ each time owing to fluctuations in the exchange rate.
Partners with a joint bank account
If you and your partner have a joint foreign bank account and you both receive an AOW pension, you will receive a single combined payment.
AOW pension payments every three months or once a year
If I you have lived or worked in the Netherlands for only a few years, you will not receive a full AOW pension. If you wish, you can then receive your AOW pension once every three months or once a year. If you would like to do so, contact the SVB. Do you live in Türkiye, Morocco, Suriname, Spain or South Africa? Please contact the SVB office at the embassy.
You cannot convert your AOW pension rights into a lump sum.
