DigiD service desks in the Netherlands

(These websites are in Dutch)

Bring with you

  • Your 9-digit service desk code. The code starts with a ‘B’. This is the code that you received by email and SMS text message when you applied for a DigiD.  Your service desk code is valid for 30 days after the date of your application.
  • Your DigiD username and password.
  • Your valid identity document (passport or identity card).
  • Your Dutch citizen service number (BSN), if it is not on your passport or ID card.
  • The phone of which you entered the phone number when you applied for your DigiD. During your appointment, you’ll receive an SMS text message on this number containing your activation code.

Attention:

You will need to collect the activation code in person. No one may collect it for you. If you want to collect an activation code for your child, your child must also be present during the appointment.

Activate your DigiD during the appointment

During the appointment the activation code will be sent by SMS to the telephone number you gave as part of the application. Once you have the activation code you can activate your DigiD. Activation can be done via DigiD.nl. Tip: activate your DigiD as soon as you have the code and before you leave the building so you can get help if you have any problems.

The activation code is valid for 21 days. Be sure to activate your DigiD within 21 days, otherwise you will need to submit a new DigiD application.

If you do not succeed

If you can’t get to a DigiD service desk in the Netherlands, you may be able to make use of one of the alternatives below, depending on your situation.

Collect your activation code via video call

If you are abroad, you can collect your activation code via a video call with a Netherlands Worldwide staff member.

Collect a DigiD activation code from a DigiD service desk abroad

You can also collect your activation code in person from a DigiD service desk abroad.

Apply for a DigiD through the Social Insurance Bank (SVB)

If you receive, or will soon be receiving, a Dutch state pension you can apply for a DigiD through the SVB. You’ll be sent your activation code by post. If you apply for a DigiD via the SVB, you won’t need to visit a service desk or arrange a video call with a NetherlandsWorldwide staff member.

Use a recognised form of eID from another European country

If you don't have a DigiD, but do have a recognised e-ID from another European country, (also known as eIDAS), you can use that to access and use the online services of Dutch organisations including the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), Tax Administration and the Education Executive Agency (DUO). You do not require a DigiD.

If you wish to collect a DigiD activation code for your child, make an appointment (if required) and fill in your child’s details.

Your child must attend the appointment

Your child must always attend the appointment. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children aged 14 and over can attend on their own, but you can be present to help them.

Your child’s telephone number

If you child does not have their own telephone number, you can use yours. You can link the same telephone number to a maximum of 5 DigiD accounts.

If you haven’t received a service desk code, or if your collection code has expired, you will need to submit a new DigiD application. After you have applied, you’ll receive a new service desk code via SMS text message and email.
