How do I apply for healthcare benefit from outside the Netherlands?

You can apply for healthcare benefit from abroad by logging in to ‘Mijn toeslagen’ on the Tax Administration website. You will need a DigiD username and password for this. You can also call the international tax information line.

Applying for healthcare benefit

To apply for healthcare benefit, follow the steps below:

  1. First check if you are entitled to healthcare benefit.
  2. Have information about your income ready.
  3. Use your DigiD username and password to log in to ‘Mijn toeslagen’.
  4. Next to ‘Zorgtoeslag’, click ‘Aanvragen’.
  5. Complete the fields and click ‘Akkoord en verzenden’.

You will need a DigiD username and password to log in. If you don’t already have DigiD, find out how to apply for DigiD from abroad.

You will get a decision on your application within 5 weeks. You can find the letter in your Message Box on MijnOverheid and in ‘Mijn toeslagen’. You will also get a letter by post.

If you don’t have DigiD, you can apply for healthcare benefit by telephone:

  1. First check if you are entitled to healthcare benefit.
  2. Call the international tax information line. Ask to apply for healthcare benefit.
  3. The Tax Administration will send you an application form by post.
  4. Fill in the form and send it back.

You will get a decision on your application by post.

When can I apply for healthcare benefit?

You can apply for healthcare benefit for a given year until 31 August of the following year. This means you have until 31 August 2022 (inclusive) to apply for healthcare benefit for 2021, for instance. If you were entitled to healthcare benefit over a period of time that has already elapsed, you will receive the total amount for that period in one go.
