What items can I take abroad?
If you are travelling from the Netherlands to another country, there are rules on what you can take with you. The rules that apply in your case depend on what you want to take.

There is no limit on the amount of money you can take abroad with you. However, you may need to submit a customs declaration. This depends on how much money you are taking with you and the country you are travelling to.

If you want to take medicines abroad, be aware that some medicines will require a medication certificate.
The rules for taking your pet with you abroad vary per country. Your pet may need an EU pet passport. Or certain vaccinations.
If you want to take something else with you abroad, for example food, cigarettes or alcohol, check with customs in the country you are travelling to what the rules are.
Good to know
- If you are travelling by air, check the rules of the airport and airline as well. For example, the rules on liquids and sharp objects.
- If you are travelling by car, boat or train, the same customs rules apply.
- If you do not follow the rules customs may confiscate your luggage and could impose a fine.
