I’m going on holiday abroad. Do I need a visa?
If you are a Dutch national and you are going on holiday abroad, you may need a visa. It depends on what country you are going to and how long you will stay there.
Check if you need a visa for your holiday destination
You do not need a visa for an EU or Schengen area country for a stay of 90 days or less. These countries are:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Hungary
- Iceland
- Ireland
- Italy
- Latvia
- Liechtenstein
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Malta
- Norway
- Poland
- Portugal
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
If you wish to stay longer than 90 days, you often have to register with the local authorities.
You do not need a visa for a stay of up to 180 days in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
This applies to:
- Aruba
- Bonaire
- Curaçao
- Saba
- St Eustatius
- St Maarten
If you wish to stay longer than 180 days, you must apply for a residence permit. Contact the local authorities of the relevant country or region of the Kingdom in the Caribbean.
If you are travelling to a country outside the EU, the Schengen area and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, fill in your journey details on the International Air Transport Association website (IATA). You can then see if you need a visa and, if so, what type of visa.
Going abroad for a longer period
If you are going abroad for a longer period, you may need a visa. It depends on what country you are going to. Contact this country’s embassy or consulate in the Netherlands. They will be able to advise you further.
