I have a child under 18 who is a Dutch national. Can I get visa facilitation for the Netherlands?
If you are the parent of a Dutch national aged under 18, you may be eligible for free Schengen visa facilitation for your journey to the Netherlands if you meet certain conditions. Check whether you meet the requirements.
Check the conditions
You can get visa facilitation if you meet the following 4 conditions:
1. Your child has Dutch nationality
You are the parent of a Dutch national aged under 18. It does not matter if you are the child's biological parent, stepparent, short-term carer or foster parent.
2. Your child is a minor
Your child is under 18.
3. You can prove that you have long-term contact with your child
You can do this by providing documents showing that your child lives with you, for instance proof of registration with your local municipality If your child does not live with you, you can prove that you have long-term contact with your child by submitting documents, such as proof of written contact, financial support, visits and/or telephone conversations.
4. You are travelling to the Netherlands to live with your child
You will need a visa for travel to the Netherlands. The purpose of your travel to the Netherlands is to live with your child there.
If you have another child who is younger than 18 and a full or half sibling of your Dutch child, this child may be eligible for visa facilitation if they require a visa to travel to the Netherlands. Find out whether your child meets the conditions for eligibility on the website of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

If you meet these conditions
If you meet all 4 of these conditions, you can apply for free Schengen visa facilitation. When you apply, please keep the following in mind:
- You will need specific documents for your application. See the checklist of documents for parents of a Dutch child under 18.
- When you make your appointment at the application location, state that you are a family member of a Dutch child under the age of 18.
- You will not have to pay a visa fee, although you may have to pay a service fee in some situations.
If you do not meet the conditions for visa facilitation
If you do not meet all of the conditions, you are not eligible for free Schengen visa facilitation. You must submit a regular Schengen visa application to travel to the Netherlands.
