If you are a national of the Central African Republic (CAR), Chad, Mauritania or Senegal and will be transferring at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on or after 25 November 2024, new rules apply. You will need an airport transport visa unless 1 of the exemptions applies to you.

Exemptions: no visa required

You do not need an airport transit visa for your transfer in Amsterdam if 1 of the following situations applies to you:

  • You have a valid visa for a Schengen or EU country, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten, Canada, Japan or the United States.
  • You have a valid residence permit for a Schengen or EU country, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten, Andorra, Canada, San Marino, Japan or the United States.

  • You are a family member of a national of an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland. Or of UK nationals covered by the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement.
  • You are crew member of an aircraft. And the airline is registered in a country that is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). See which countries are members of ICAO.

None of the above: visa required

If none of the exemptions applies to you, you need a visa. Select the situation that applies to you to see which type of visa you need.

If you will be leaving the Schiphol international transit zone you need a Schengen visa. This is because you will be entering the Netherlands. If you are unsure whether you need a visa, read about leaving the international transit zone at Schiphol.
