Collecting your DigiD activation code via video call

Language selection:English

If you live abroad and have applied for a DigiD and received a service desk code, you will need an activation code to activate your DigiD. You can collect your activation code via a video call with a NetherlandsWorldwide staff member. Make an appointment to do so.

Make an appointment

  • To schedule a video call between 8.00 and 16.00 local Dutch time, make an appointment with desk 1, 2, 3 or 4. Appointments for these desks open every Friday at 9.00 local Dutch time for the following week.
  • To schedule a video call between 14.30 and 22.30 local Dutch time, make an appointment with desk 6, 7, 8 or 9. Appointments for these desks open every Friday at 14.00 local Dutch time for the following week.
Attention: If you are in the Netherlands at the time of the appointment, you cannot collect your activation code via video call. You can collect an activation code at a DigiD service desk in the Netherlands.

What you’ll need for the appointment

  • Your 9-digit service desk code. The code starts with a ‘B’. This is the code that you received by email and SMS text message when you applied for a DigiD.  Your service desk code is valid for 30 days after the date of your application.
  • Your DigiD username and password.
  • Your valid identity document (passport or identity card).
  • Your Dutch citizen service number (BSN), if it is not on your passport or ID card.
  • The phone of which you entered the phone number when you applied for your DigiD. During your appointment, you’ll receive an SMS text message on this number containing your activation code.
  • A computer, tablet or smartphone that can be used to make video calls. The device must have a working camera, microphone and speaker(s).
  • A stable internet connection for making the video call.
  • An up-to-date internet browser, like Microsoft Edge, Firefox or Safari.
Attention: You must be in the video call yourself to receive your activation code. You may get help from someone. If you want to collect an activation code for your child, your child must appear in the video call with you. Children aged 14 and over may conduct their own video call.

Activate your DigiD during the appointment

During the call the activation code will be sent by SMS to the telephone number you gave as part of the application. You can use the activation code to activate your DigiD. Activation can be done via DigiD.nl. If there’s time left, you can do this during your online appointment. The staff member can help you with this.

The activation code is valid for 21 days. Be sure to activate your DigiD within 21 days, otherwise you will need to submit a new DigiD application.

If you do not succeed

If no appointments are currently available, every Friday at 9.00 and 14.00 local time in the Netherlands appointments open for the following week. Please try again then.

Collect your activation code from a DigiD service desk

As an alternative to a video call, you can collect your activation code in person from a DigiD service desk in the Netherlands or a DigiD service desk abroad.

Apply for a DigiD through the Social Insurance Bank (SVB)

If you receive, or will soon be receiving, a Dutch state pension you can apply for a DigiD through the SVB. You’ll be sent your activation code by post. If you apply for a DigiD via the SVB, you won’t need to visit a service desk or arrange a video call with a NetherlandsWorldwide staff member.

Use a recognised form of eID from another European country

If you don't have a DigiD, but do have a recognised e-ID from another European country, (also known as eIDAS), you can use that to access and use the online services of Dutch organisations including the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), Tax Administration and the Education Executive Agency (DUO). In that case, you do not need a DigiD.

If you wish to receive a DigiD activation code for your child via a video call, make an appointment and fill in your child’s details.

Your child must attend the appointment

Your child must always attend the video appointment. Children under 14 must always video call in the presence of a parent or guardian. Children aged 14 and over may conduct their own video call, but you can be present to help them.

Your child’s telephone number

If you child does not have their own telephone number, you can use yours. You can link the same telephone number to a maximum of 5 DigiD accounts.

If you haven’t received a service desk code, or if your collection code has expired, you will need to submit a new DigiD application. After you have applied, you’ll receive a new service desk code via SMS text message and email.

Apply for a DigiD (and receive a service desk code) from abroad

Attention: The service desk code is made up of 9 digits and always starts with a ‘B’. It is valid for 30 days after the date you apply.

Have you forgotten your DigiD username? Then you can apply for a new DigiD. Have you forgotten your password? Then you can request a new password for DigiD by e-mail or text message. You do not need to move your video call appointment.

You must attend your video call appointment in person. Follow the steps below:

  • Click the link in the email you received from NetherlandsWorldwide, or go to https://webmeeting.minbuza.nl.
  • Enter your meeting ID (without a # or other sign).
  • Enter your PIN (without a # or other sign).
  • Enter your given name and surname where it asks what name to display.
  • Click ‘Join meeting’.
Attention: If you see the notification ‘System is currently unavailable’, try logging in with a different browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari.

You can cancel your appointment online. You can do this up to 24 hours before your appointment.

If you need to cancel your appointment after that time, please email 247NWW-DigiD@minbuza.nl.
