How long is the application process for a Dutch passport or ID-card abroad?

You will receive a notification of your application
You will receive an e-mail when your new passport or ID card is ready or when you need to provide additional documents.
We aim to process your application as quickly as possible. How long your application takes depends on a number of things:
- How soon you can get an appointment at your application location
- Whether you need to provide additional documents
- The number of applications submitted worldwide. It is currently busier than usual. Many passports expire in 2024, resulting in an extra volume of applications.
