How can I track the status of my passport or ID card application from abroad?

You can track the status of your application for a new Dutch passport or ID card online. How you do this depends on where you submitted your application.

Warning: Please do not contact us about the status of your application. The only way to track the status of your application is online. How you do this depends on where you submitted your application. We have no access to information about your application.

Application submitted at a Dutch embassy or consulate-general

If you submitted your application at a Dutch embassy or consulate-general and you received a tracking number, you can track the status of your application online. If you have not received a tracking number, you cannot check the status online.   1. Open the track & trace system.
  2. Select the country where you submitted your application and your language.
  3. Click ‘Submit’.
  4. Fill in the tracking number. You can find this number on the back of the card you received when you submitted the application. The tracking number always starts with 3 letters. The card also contains the link to the track & trace system, which is nederlandwereldwijd.nl/track or netherlandsworldwide.nl/track.
  5. Click ‘Submit’ to view the status of your application.

Application submitted at VFS Global

If you submitted your application at VFS Global you can track the status of your application online. You will need the reference number you received when you made the application.

  1. Go to the VFS Global website.
  2. Click ‘Passport Services’.
  3. Choose the country you live in and your nationality.
  4. Click ‘Go’.
  5. Go to ‘Track your application’ and click the link under ‘Track your application status online’.
  6. Fill in your name and the reference number you received when you submitted your application. You can find the reference number on the invoice/receipt you were given by the application centre. The number always starts with the first two letters of the city where you made the application, followed by 'NL' and the date. For London, for example, this is: LONL/180424/0034/01.
  7. Click ‘Submit’ to view the status of your application.
