Do I qualify for unemployment benefit outside the Netherlands?

What is your situation?

If you are fully or partially unemployed outside the Netherlands and you are entitled to unemployment benefit from the benefits organisation in the country where you work/worked, find out the amount and duration of your unemployment benefit from that organisation. The amount and duration of unemployment benefit vary by country.

If you work/worked in an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you can find the relevant benefits organisation on Europa.eu.

If you are fully or partially unemployed outside the Netherlands and you are entitled to unemployment benefit from the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV), the amount and duration of your benefit depends on your situation.

Unemployment benefit amount

The first 2 months of unemployment benefit is 75% of your daily pay. After that it is 70% of your daily pay. Your daily pay is the average salary you received per day from the employer you worked for when you became unemployed. Your benefit can never be higher than 75% or 70% of the maximum wage. The exact amount of your unemployment benefit depends on your situation. The amount of unemployment benefit you receive may change if your situation changes.

Estimate your gross unemployment benefit using UWV’s calculation tool (information in Dutch). To calculate your estimated benefit you will need a payslip from your most recent employer.

Unemployment benefit duration

The duration of your unemployment benefit depends on your employment history (in Dutch). The maximum duration of unemployment benefit from UWV is 2 years. The benefit may also stop earlier.
