How do I apply for student finance for a course in or outside the Netherlands?
If you are not yet getting student finance from DUO and you meet the conditions, you can apply for student finance through Mijn DUO. Or you can apply using a form. Apply for student finance at least 3 months before the start of your course.
Your application
To apply for student finance through Mijn DUO you need:
- your citizen service number (BSN)
- your DigiD or an EU-recognised eID.

Applying to DUO for student finance
Follow these steps to apply for student finance or a public transport allowance:
- Check that you meet the conditions for student finance.
- Log in to Mijn DUO using your DigiD or an EU-recognised eID.
- Go to Mijn producten (my products) and Studiefinanciering aanvragen (apply for student finance).

There are two ways to log in to Mijn DUO using your DigiD:
- With the DigiD app: log in with a QR code and your PIN

If you cannot log in to Mijn DUO, use the student finance application forms (in Dutch) on the DUO website. If you have any questions, please contact DUO.
Follow these steps to apply for student finance or a student travel product:
- Check that you meet the conditions for student finance.
- If you want to apply for a student travel product, first purchase a personal public transport smart card (OV chipkaart). You will be able to upload the student travel product onto this card.
- Log in to Mijn DUO using your DigiD or a recognised eID from another EU country.
- Go to Mijn producten (my products) and Studiefinanciering aanvragen (apply for student finance).
